My Journey to Massage, Reiki & Singing Bowl Therapy
My Journey to Massage, Reiki & Singing Bowl Therapy
Some people are born knowing "what they want to do when they grow up." This was not me, but I was born with a sense of intuition that has guided me to the work I have done in this life. In 2001, I was a student at Cal Poly going through a difficult time when my mom, and my now husband, suggested I go to massage school. I felt drawn to see where that might take me so I went, and started working as a massage therapist right after getting certified. I loved the connection I felt with the people I worked on and the lifestyle it offered me so massage became my career of choice after graduating from Cal Poly in 2004. Most of my massage work was deep tissue during that time, and it became very wearing on my body.
Starting a Cycle Studio
After seventeen years of practicing massage, I took a much needed break so my husband and I could start an indoor cycling studio, cycletribe. It was just what I needed at the time, but the new life of running a cycle studio was very stressful for me, and I started having difficulty with daily anxiety. A year after we started the studio, we lost our cat, Bevo, and I felt an inner call to study animal Reiki. I also needed to find a way to soothe my anxiety so I figured Reiki would be a perfect fit.
Finding Reiki
When the pandemic hit, our cycling business was closed for 4 months and even when we reopened we offered a limited schedule of outdoor rides for 1½ years. With more time on my hands, I started practicing massage again, and included Reiki in my massages. I was so in awe with how people were responding to my massages with Reiki — I could see my clients were getting more healing because their parasympathetic nervous system was being activated, allowing for a much deeper relaxation, and "Reiki" or life force energy, filled their bodies.
Following My Heart Back to Massage
Practicing Reiki with massage was like another world had opened up to me and I LOVED IT! I started feeling the draw to practice massage again, and it was an undeniable pull. My husband and I talked about shifting our journey, and agreed it was time to sell our indoor cycling business so we could follow other passions. So here I am, following my heart to those who are drawn to allow me the honor of caring for their bodies and minds.
Singing Bowl Therapy
When I returned to practicing massage, I knew I wanted to include sound healing somehow. I searched for a Singing Bowl, but intuitively nothing felt right. I ended up doing a Google search, and found a teacher from Nepal, the birthplace of this ancient therapeutic technique, to guide me in this new endeavor. I flew to Portland with my mom and sister, who also took the training, and we immersed ourselves in learning this sound and vibrational healing modality.
